Driver's Permit
Our truck is harder to drive than our horse. That’s what I realized after I got to instruct Sarah to drive for the first time. We made the drive to town today and stood in the long line for Sarah to take her permit test. She asked to be able to take the written test instead of the computerized one so that she could review everything before turning it in. After taking the test she said she had a really good feeling about it. When she came out of the exam room she had the biggest smile on her face, she had passed!
We headed towards home and pulled into a church parking lot. Sarah hopped into the driver seat and we figured out how to adjust the seat. She drove in circles for 15 minutes, and our first lesson was over. Then we get to start to log 40 hours behind the wheel. I’ve been down this road before, and I’ll get through it again. The difference this time is that Sarah is going to need to learn how to backup a trailer loaded with goats or horses. So I guess we will both have some learning to do!
Shortly after Sarah passed her permit test, we went out and bought a new to us Toyota Prius. I had to have a vehicle with space to haul boxes and boxes of soap for when we work at a booth, and there’s nothing like the trunk of a Prius. I’ve even hauled up to 4 bales of hay in a Prius in the past, so there’s that benefit also.
We’ve graduated from parking lots to driving on the road now, Sarah is growing up before my eyes!
