What do credit cards do to a small business?
Why should we use cash whenever we can?
If you pay a $50 bill with cash, that business owner has $50. They can in turn spend the entire $50 when they buy something.
If you use a card, they end up with $48.40. That amount keeps losing 3% plus a transaction fee each time it’s used. Therefore after about 30 transactions, the initial $50 will widdle down to about $5. The $45 is now in the hands of the bank.
Credit cards have become so normalized, but let’s all change the way we spend. Support small businesses in this small way.
What has me so fired up about this? Square is the most common company for small businesses to use to process credit cards. Just recently (June 6 I believe) they made a change, and if a customer returns a product for a refund, Square now keeps the entire fee, and the transaction fee. I understand the transaction fee, but the 3%? That’s just greed.
So if someone charges $1,000 and asks for a refund, they get their $1,000 back. But the small business looses $30 in the transaction. It’s just another way to keep small business owners from competing with larger companies.
This does not affect me. No one has ever asked for a refund from me, but in support of small businesses everywhere, I’d prefer not to take cards anymore at my markets. So bring your cash 💰and support small businesses 👩🏻🌾everywhere 🛍️
Now for the goat video!! Here’s one from a while back (we still had wood floors in our kitchen, it’s been a while). This was baby Annie: https://youtu.be/E6hwr4g7ouo
