The Story Behind Our Name

Rapha, what does it mean?

Rapha is a hebrew word meaning to restore, or to heal.

A few years before Rapha Farms was “born”, my daughter Sarah started a business boarding dogs in our home (a story I need to tell one day). We ended up naming that business “Sarah’s Pet Oasis”. Then when we made our move to our hobby farm, and we started making goat milk soap, the search for the perfect name began. I initially thought it would be nice to tie the two businesses together, and I thought using the work Oasis in the name would be nice. So we tried Oasis Creations, but that was taken, so then it became Oasis Creations Farms. A website was created, business cards ordered and we did a few booths in the beginning with our purple goat on our banner.

We started to sell more soap and the wonderful feedback started to come in. I decided to get serious and I began to look for a farmers market to sell at. I registered the business name and applied for our tax id. Eventually I would look into doing some social media marketing, and an appointment with Simply Media MPLS was scheduled.

I remember telling a couple of friends that I was having second thoughts about our name. I felt pretty silly, because a lot of work went into getting the name setup. But if I was honest, I just didn’t like it. It was too long, and hard to remember. Then I went to my meeting with Simply Media, and one of the first things that Anna told me was that she didn’t like my name!

While texting with my friend Diana late one night (I’m a night owl and I’m often up WAY too late) she said to me “How about Rapha Farms, Rapha is Hebrew for healing”. I loved it instantly, and so did everyone else I shared it with.

So Rapha. Healing. The perfect name for our business. Because we are all about providing a product that will heal, make you healthy or keep you healthy.
